The Greater Chennai Corporation has started to take preparatory measure to conduct a polio immunization campaign on January 28th.
Speaking about this, a Corporation official said, A district co-ordination meeting had been conducted on Friday at Ripon Buildings to discuss the preparation measures. More than 1,600 camps would be organised in Chennai district. It is also decided to set up mobile polio camps at bus stands and railway stations. The mobile and temporary camps would also be arranged at beaches, parks and places. The polio vaccine would be given to children below 5 years. The second round of immunization drive would be conducted on March 11.
Although India is declared as polio-free, the authorities continue to conduct immunization drive to prevent transmission from other countries.
