Airports Authority of India (AAI) gave permission for many private stalls to be placed at Chennai Airport for selling various products for the passengers. But there was an order for these shops not to sell bottled water. Even the new stalls planning to sell packaged food cannot have bottled water in their menu list. The order will be benefitted by the old stalls and outlets that sell water at very expensive prices. The competition for these stalls will be held back by this order.

Already there are thousands of complaints from Passengers regarding the expensive prices of Bottles water in the Airport premises. The bottles have special tags of prices made for Airport business only which gets many negative feedbacks from the public. But the government of India and AAI gave an entirely opposite blow to the benefit of these old outlets and keeping the public hospitalization completely out of the question.

A bottle of water is old for Rs 50 and above in many important points of the Airport and by the decision of resisting the new stalls not to sell water will further lead to the public rage and anger against the Airport Authorities says an Insider of the AAI.

D Sudhakara Reddy, Air Passengers Association of India (APAI) National President said the Airport Authorities should offer multiple options for passengers. He also added that those who are not interested to buy bottled waters must have an alternate option and this in fact is the right to have the basic need of life inside a government owned public transportation premise.

There is a monopoly of fixing water price inside the Airport from Food and Beverage department. This should be completely taken under control by the Indian Government to ensure the public rights to provide free water or at the least the prices should be tagged similar to the shops outside the Airport.
