The Tamil Nadu Transport Department has identified 1,469 mini-bus routes across the state, with gazette notifications already issued in some districts. Chennai and other regions are expected to receive their notifications next week, after which private operators can apply for permits.
Key Highlights:
- Erode & Tiruvannamalai lead with 109 routes each, while Kanniyakumari has just three routes.
- Chennai to have fewer than 10 routes, mostly in north Chennai, with limited services in the south.
- Suburban areas like Tambaram, Sholinganallur, Guduvanchery, Avadi, and Poonamallee will see over 25 routes.
- CUMTA survey underway to identify additional routes in the city, facing challenges due to congestion and existing MTC permits.
