People who have been finding it difficult to go to the southern suburbs of Chennai would feel very happy now. The reason for that is on Thursday, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has increased the bus connectivity to the southern suburbs by launching new buses.

It was mentioned by some officials belonging to MTC that Tambaram, Chengalpet and IT corridor along OMR till Siruseri would be among few areas that would be hugely benefited.

As many as 100 new MTC buses were launched and out of these 100 about 40 new buses would connect these above said areas with different parts of Chennai. In a day, each bus would take 8 to 11 trips for the sake of the commuters. It should be noted that share autos and MTC buses were 2 options that are available for the commuters since the IT corridor is devoid of local trains(after Thiruvanmiyur/Taramani).

A resident belonging to Thoraipakkam spoke about how except for those using office cabs getting cab outside this at cheap rates has been very difficult. Point is MTC has increased its services along this stretch and about 110 additional trips are being operated every day. Information gathered is this included the routes 570 (Kelambakkam to Koyambedu), 519 (Thiruporur to T. Nagar) and 102 (Kelambakkam to Broadway) and these buses connect OMR with west, central and north Chennai respectively.

It is superb to mention here that good patronage got by these additional MTC services till now has given confidence to MTC to add 20 new buses in these routes. Grand Southern Trunk Road or GST via Tambaram, Vandalur and Chengalpet would also see more than dozen buses now.

Old buses along the routes like 579A (Tambaram to Walajabad), 21G (Tambaram to Broadway), 23C (Ayanavaram to Besant Nagar), 29C (Perambur to Besant Nagar) and 27B (Anna Square to Koyambedu) have been replaced with new ones and this was according to the demands of the public. The chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, flagged off 400 new buses belonging to other state transport corporations also. Information collected is out of 400 new buses, 150 buses were allocated to SETC or State Express Transport Corporation that operates long distance buses in TN and to the neighbouring states like Kerala, Telangana and AP.

An official release mentioned that Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation or TNSTC Villupuram, Salem, Coimbatore, Kumbakonam have been allotted 10, 20, 30 and 110 buses respectively.

It is worthy to mention that southern districts would have 80 new buses to be operated in and around Madurai and Tirunelveli etc. Information is in the last one year these are the 7th batch of new buses to be launched by the state transport department.
