In Chennai, people using the Poonamalle High Road or P.H. Road frequently knows how busy this road is.

Information gathered now is motorists are finding it very difficult in getting past the stretch between Chennai Central and the Government College of Fine Arts in Egmore in this P.H. Road. Many private omnibuses are parked here to pick up the passengers and these buses often intrude the carriageway.

It is shocking to mention here that the police officers stationed opposite to the Ripon buildings, that is less than 50 m from where private buses are parked, have ignored the issue. Information collected is once the private bus operators set up officers around CMBT in Koyambedu, the issue was reduced in the past. It has been mentioned by some police officers that clearing these omni buses is very difficult now.

There are some restaurants present just opposite to the encroached stretch. It is now clear that the police personnel often confiscated the vehicles of their customers parked on the road and do not bother about the private omni buses parked on the road. A restaurant manager shed light on how he gave complaint to the police and how no action was taken. Shuttling between Chennai Central and Egmore to pick up the passengers, omni buses take over the stretch from 6 pm to 10 pm in the late evening.

It has been pointed out by the police that omni buses were parked just temporarily and permission was not given to these buses or anyone to park vehicles to block the road. For violating the parking rules and for obstructing the movement of vehicles, 4 cases were booked in the last 2 months of time against the travel employee agency. Buses choke the traffic in the areas belonging to north Chennai and this was as per Mr. Suresh, lawyer who handles cases related to motor vehicles at the Madras HC.
