It has been announced on behalf of the Chennai Metro City Police Department that if any of the public encounter any criminal activities indulged by the college students under the so called ‘Route Thala’, complaint can be made immediately to the Whats App telephone number 908755233.
There was an untoward incident on 23rd July in Chennai Arumbakkam area when the students of Pachiyappa’s College indulged in fighting with swords. One student got seriously injured. The police registered a case in this regard and arrested 6 students.
Subsequently, the Police has been taking several initiatives to prevent the students from fighting as above and also prevent the students indulging in fights on the city traffic routes cresting traffic problems.
The Police Department also issued a warning that stringent immediate action will be taken on the students under the Goonda’s Act if they indulge in such activities.
Further, the Police department has identified 80 students who travel in certain MTC bus routes and decided to take action on them and also take action on some of the old students who instigate the present set of students to indulge in such violent activities.
Accordingly, the Police have identified ‘route thala’ students and registered cases against them and also obtained a written promise from these students that they would not indulge in any such violent activities over the next 6 months and in case of violation, they will be arrested and imprisoned. On a single day – last Saturday, 27th July, this promise was obtained form 58 students.
Thus, in order to contain the criminal activities indulged by the ‘route thala’ students, as a next step, introduced a Whats App telephone number to facilitate the public who observe such activities to immediately complain to – 0987552233 and have announced this for public awareness.
