The motorists could feel huge relief now as the work on 3-lane unidirectional Pallavaram flyover on the GSR Road is likely to be over by the end of July. It is well known that the work has been delayed for almost 2 years.

The approach on the Guindy side has been completed and the road on the Tambaram side is getting completed. This was according to the officials belonging to the Highways Department. Truth is the work would have been over by April month itself but the lockdown to control Coronavirus issue had delayed the work.

The work on the flyover was resumed once again last month with a minimum number of workers for the sake of social distancing. The local workers have been used to finish the remaining works as the migrant workers have gone back to their natives.

It must not be forgotten that the flyover work began in the year 2015 with the project cost of Rs 82 crores. The flyover has been constructed to ease the traffic along the 3 junctions like Alstom signal, Pallavaram Sandhai Road, and Kundrathur Road.

The official later explained that the volume of work on this 1.5km long flyover was higher than other flyovers. He was happy that 85 percent of work has been over in one of the busiest stretches of Chennai city. Few minor works are there now and it would also be finished soon. Every day, more than 2.25 lakhs of vehicles use this important GST Road in Chennai is a known fact.
