On Thursday, 12th August 2021, the health minister Mr. M. Subramanian and transport minister Mr. R.S. Rajakannapan became the cynosure of many eyes when they flagged off 23 new buses on the new routes.
Information collected is that the new buses would be operated from west Saidapet, Ilan Kaliamman Koil Stop, Guindy, Kondur Ekkattuthangal and few other nearby areas. The superb piece of information is that there would be 2 luxury buses that would be operated from west Saidapet to Chengapet also.
It is true that in Saidapet 60% of people live in the slums and they depend on public transport to reach their destinations. This was according to the health minister. He added that many have got relatives in places like Chengalpet, Villupuram, Tindivanam etc as most of them came from these places to settle in Chennai.
Transport minister later spoke about how out of 21000 buses being operated in TN 10000 buses are free for women. Traders belonging to Saidapet were finding it difficult to go to the Koyambedu market due to the transportation costs and they travelled just once in a day. With new buses, the traders would be able to travel to Koyambedu twice a day. The revival in the transport sector has been huge.
