Greenish scenery near Cooum and Adyar rivers!! Sound`s incredible right!!
By the month of March, plantations of saplings along the Cooum river and Adyar river would be completed and this was according to GCC. With the funds from CRRT or Chennai River Restoration Trust, the GCC authorities have planted more than 6000 saplings in several stretches near the river bund.
On the banks of Cooum river and Adyar river, several works are being carried out now. The illegal encroachments present on the river bunds have been evicted by GCC along with WRD and TNUHDB.
It must be noted that currently planting of saplings is being done in Royapuram zone of zone 5 from Napier Bridge to Quaid -E- Milleth bridge. The authorities from the civic body have planted about 14300 saplings of which 4300 native tree species like neem, askoa, guava ete are planted. In zone 5 from Quaid-E-Milleth bridge to Laws Bridge, 5500 saplings have been planted by GCC. An amount of rs 1.73 cr is being spent for the sapling plantation activity. The official release from GCC has mentioned that the work would be completed in March.
From Thiru Vi Ka Nagar bridge to MRTS bridge near Adyar river, a pathway has been constructed recently at an estimated cost of Rs 5.4cr. It is said that atleast 60000 saplings have been planted in the pathway.
In the Alandur zone, from the Meenambakkam bridge near the airport runway to Nandambakkam bridge on the Adyar river, as many as 13456 saplings were planted. An amount of Rs 1.17 cr was allotted for this.
