Various initiatives are being undertaken by the Department of Registration of Properties of the State Government of Tamil Nadu to prevent the registration of fake documents and ensure the proper channeling of due revenues.
Recently, an announcement was made regarding an increase in the registration charges for vacant plots and built properties. In this context, instances were discovered where fully built areas were falsely presented as vacant plots during the registration process. This fraudulent activity had a significant impact on the revenue that should have rightfully gone to the Department of Registration.
To counter such malpractices, it is now mandatory to attach photographs of the registered property along with their Geo-coordinates in all records pertaining to the relevant property.
The Secretary of the Department of Registration, Jothi Nirmalasamy, has announced that this regulation will take effect from October 1st. However, due to consecutive holidays on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, including Gandhi Jayanthi on October 2nd, this regulation will be implemented starting from tomorrow, October 3rd (Tuesday).
Henceforth, every application for registration must include a photograph of the respective property along with its Geo-coordinates.
Please note that this procedure will not apply to cases where property registration is conducted online or when the identity proof documents are submitted during housing loan applications, property document transfers to new owners, receipts provided by financial agencies, or the distribution of property through a will.
