One of the developing residential localities belonging to north Chennai is Kadappakam. It is close to localities like Manali, Madhavaram etc is known to us. A lake present in Kadapakkam is making news now for this reason.
The news that has come out now is that Kadapakkam Lake would be converted into an eco-park in the future. An amount of Rs 58 cr would be spent on this conversion. It is said that the Chennai Corporation has started the work regarding this.
In the year 2015, many parts in Chennai Metropolitan Area or CMA were submerged under the floods. After the floods, neglected and encroached lakes and ponds have been restored and converted into eco parks. Important piece of information is that more than 100 lakes and ponds have been restored. Now, the Chennai Corporation has decided to convert 135 acre lake present in Ward 16 of Manali mandal into an eco-park. The work has started already.
What work is going on now?
Now, waste present in this Kadapakkam Lake is being removed and dredging work is underway for a depth of about 3m. By this, the water capacity of the lake would double and the capacity would be increased to 1.9 million cubic metres.
The officials belonging to Chennai Corporation have revealed that the eco-park would have many fantastic facilities like walkway, butterfly park, 2 bird islands, an artificial fountain, a seating area for the visitors to sit and relax etc.
