Nandhampakkam residents seem to enjoy gains with the Global Investors Meet which had its venue at Chennai Trade Center, located in the region.
Water stagnation, mosquito breeding, etc were surveyed by a team of corporation officials in about 4,500 houses on 127 streets in and around the locality. About 1800 overhead tanks, 210 wells and 5900 other locations were found to be the source of breeding in the vicinity. Open drains near the venue were found to contain mosquito larvae, say officials from the corporation.
Officials have intensified anti-mosquito operations in the areas of Nandambakkam and its surrounding localities that have cantonment areas. These are zones that do not have enough sewerage connections or drainage facility for storm water. These canals and sewage carriers are the source for mosquitoes, said a senior corporation official.
Chennai was in the 61st position among the 476 cities that were listed in the Swachh Bharat ranking rolled out by the ministry of urban development. Now, additional conservancy workers and compactors are likely to be deployed by the civic body in these localities. New garbage bins are set up on main stretches in order to ensure that these areas are neat and tidy. Officials also say that steps to remove posters and graffiti are also being taken.
Pavements are getting re-laid along the stretch of Mount Poonamallee Road. This is done by the state highway department. Works for war footing are being speed-ed up. Whenever there is a major exhibition or event at the trade center, the IDPL township will serve as the exit route for all vehicles. These roads have been in pathetic condition for the past many years. Now, these are getting bettered, said a resident of Ganapathipuram Colony.
