As more truckloads of watermelons have started arriving at the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market, the price of watermelon has come down to Rs. 10 per kg.
It is a regular routine for the farmers to grow watermelons for and during the summer season. They will harvest in the summer and bring the yield to the market.
Last year, watermelons were sold at at Rs. 20 per kg.
As the rainfall and the watermelons were grown on additional acreage, the yield quantity of watermelons has been excellent this year. Subsequently, the truckloads of watermelon arriving at the Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market have also increased considerably. Subsequently, the price of watermelon has come down to Rs. 10 per kg.
The wholesale trader informed that this reduction has encouraged both the traders and the public to buy more watermelons with enthusiasm.
