Daily travel will become easier in Chennai - Just one app for MTC tickets etc soon!!
Beginning from 2025 onwards, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Chennai would help the travellers purchase bus tickets through just one new app with enhanced features. This new app would replace the present Chennai Bus App. By this, daily travel would become easier for many passengers in the city.
It was brought to light by the MD of MTC Mr. Alby John Verghese that the new upcoming app from MTC would provide a more accurate location of the buses and ticket system along with the present Chennai Bus apps journey planner feature. With this app, the passengers would be able to give their feedback too. The commute of thousands of passengers would become smoother. It must be taken into account that after boarding the MTC bus, the pre-purchased ticket would be validated by the conductor. This would bring down the issues of both the conductor as well as the passenger.
As a part of Automatic Vehicle Location System or AVLS under the Chennai Intelligent Transport System or CITS, the upcoming app has been developed.
Across 500 bus stops and 71 bus terminals in Chennai, there would be LED display boards present also in addition to the apps. By this, the bus arrivals and other detail etc would be known to the passengers. The display boards would have bus route number, destination and estimated time of arrivals etc.
Mr. Alby John Verghese, explained that the pilot of the project was completed and now on board units are being installed on the MTC buses. Later on, LED boards would be set up at the bus stands. It must be taken into note that based on GPS data, ETA would be displayed. For the sake of 2 way control between drivers and staffs at the control room, a driver console would also be established.
