Chennai Metro Rail Corporation (CMRL) has announced the construction of a state-of-the-art bus stand near Thiruvottriyur Metro Station at a cost of ₹14 crore. This initiative aims to seamlessly integrate metro and city bus services, providing commuters with a more efficient and convenient travel experience.

The existing bus stand and workshop, temporarily relocated to Ajax Nagar during metro construction, currently serves over 80 buses daily on routes to Broadway, Tambaram, Klampakkam, and Koyambedu. However, the lack of basic facilities has caused inconvenience to passengers, particularly in accessing metro stations and other amenities.

The new bus stand will address these issues by offering:

- Separate bus stands and workshops for streamlined operations.
- Enhanced passenger facilities, including seating, toilets, and adequate parking.
- Improved road infrastructure for smooth entry and exit of buses.
- Direct connectivity to the Thiruvottriyur Metro Station, ensuring a hassle-free transition between modes of transport.

CMRL officials stated that the project involves demolishing old structures and constructing a new, elevated building with modern amenities. A tender has been issued, and a company will soon be selected to execute the project. The entire facility is expected to be operational within 12 months.

This development is part of CMRL’s broader vision to transform public transport in Chennai by creating integrated hubs that enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and improve the overall commuting experience for thousands of daily passengers.
