It seems that the February month will end on a wet note!!
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC in Chennai, on 28th of February and on 1st of March there would be scattered rainfall over south coastal TN and delta regions etc.
The rainfall would arrive on 26th February after nearly a month of prolonged dry weather. It is learnt that the return of rainfall would also reduce the temperatures especially in the south TN. It is now mentioned that this month would end on wet note.
Till 2nd March, there would be rains and this was as per the RMC. On Wednesday, 26th February the rains would return to coastal TN and this was predicted by the numerical weather models. The rains would pick up by Thursday, 27th February and spread to southern places by 28th of February.
This could be a good start for the pre-monsoon showers and this was as per some officials in RMC. Information collected is that a cyclonic circulation moving over the equatorial region and interacting with an easterly trough would trigger rainfall over TN, Puducherry and Karaikal.
On 28th February ad 1st March, some districts in north TN might receive scattered rainfall. It is said that interior parts have chances of rainfall in isolated places.
When compared to other parts of TN, rainfall would be more pronounced in southern Tamil Nadu. This was according to Mr. P. Senthamarai Kannan, director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, RMC, Chennai. There might be heavy rainfall in the delta districts and south coastal areas like Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari etc on Friday.
Mr. P. Senthamarai Kannan later spoke about how on 1st March many places in south TN might receive rainfall and how heavy rainfall would be limited to few districts like Tenkasi and Thoothukudi. As the rainfall might be more concentrated in southern TN, north TN etc might witness rise in the maximum temperature.
Point is that some places like Chennai might experience cool and pleasant early morning hours as winter is in its final stages.
