Mushroom – 10 pieces (button mushroom 1 small packet)
Onion -3 nos
Tomato -2 nos
Ginger – a small piece
Garlic – 8 cloves
Fennel seeds – ½ tsp
Cinnamon – a few
Cloves – a few
Cashew nuts – 2 nos
Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
Sambar Powder – 1 tbsp.
Garam Masala – ½ tsp
Salt – as needed
Cooking Oil – 3 tbsp.
Method to Prepare:
Wash mushroom thoroughly in tap water. Separately heat water in a bowl with a pinch of salt. Add washed mushrooms to it and take it out after 3 minutes.
Then drain the mushrooms completely and chop it into small sized pieces and keep it aside.
Chop onion and tomato separately and transfer it to a plate.
Heat pan with one spoon of oil and add chopped onion (2 nos), ginger, garlic and cashew nuts and sauté it for few minutes and switch off the flame. Allow it to cool for some time and grind it in a mixer (without adding water).
Again heat the pan with 2 spoons of oil and add fennel seeds, cinnamon and cloves and wait once it splutter.
Then add the chopped onion (1 no) and fry it until its colour turns light brown. Then add the grinded onion paste and sauté for some time.
Then grind tomato to a smooth paste and pour it to the pan, mix and sauté well.
Then add turmeric powder, Sambar powder, Garam masala powder and Salt. Mix well.
Now it’s time to add the chopped mushroom pieces in to the pan and mix well.
Sauté the mix well for a minute and add required quantity of water. Allow it to boil.
Once boiling, Keep the stove in low flame for about 5 to 10 minutes.
Then switch off the flame and transfer it to a serving bowl.
Sprinkle some chopped coriander leaves for garnishing.
Hot Mushroom Masala Gravy is ready to serve with chapatti!
Tips:
You can also add paneer to this dish.
If you are preparing for kids, you can add a spoon of ghee or butter at the time of switching off the stove.
For a better tang, it is always advisable to sauté onion in oil till it turns light brown.
Putting mushroom in hot salt water, is to get rid of unwanted insects in it. (you can also add a pinch of turmeric powder along with the salt in the hot water)
Mushroom is a gluten free and rich source of vitamins and minerals.
While buying mushrooms from super market, always go for a fresh packet. And never store it in the fridge. Use it the day you buy it!
