What we put into our body would be shown outside!!

That is what we consume would be responsible for a healthy and glowing complexion of our skin. It is believed that when compared to animal based foods plant based foods would contribute more towards the health of our skin.

By consuming plant based foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes plus others like nuts, seeds, and whole grains etc, our skin quality would be enhanced. We could fight against skin related problems well.  It is known that the above said foods have antioxidants plus minerals, vitamins etc in them.

Health benefits of eating plant based diet for skin health:

Rich in antioxidants:

It is worthy to note that the plant based foods are rich in antioxidants like vitamin C and E, beta carotene, polyphenols etc. These would fight against the oxidative stress by the free radicals. By this we would be free from premature ageing, wrinkles etc. Our skin elasticity and firmness would be enhanced by vitamin C.

Anti inflammatory properties:

Skin issues like acne, eczema and psoriasis etc are caused by inflammation. The presence of anti-inflammatory compounds in chia seeds etc would reduce redness and skin irritation etc.

Boosts hydration

Cucumbers, water melons and leafy greens etc have high water content in them and consuming these fruits and vegetables would keep us hydrated. By this, skin elasticity would be maintained and fine lines would be reduced.

Reduced toxins etc:

Animal based foods would have certain hormones that could create skin problems in us. By eating plant based foods, exposure to these would be lowered and we could get a clear skin.

Better gut health:

We all know that there exists a connection between our skin and gut.  By consuming plant based foods,  a healthy gut microbiome would be supported through fibre contents. Our gut health would get better by consuming probiotic foods like kimchi and sauerkraut etc.

Lower GI:

There are chances of us getting skin issues like acne etc when we eat refined foods. The refined foods have high glycemic index or GI.I. By eating plant based foods with low GI, there would not be a spike in our blood sugar levels. As a result, we would not get acne and other skin conditions etc.

Supports detoxification:

Consuming vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli etc would help in liver detoxification. This would remove the toxins and would make the skin glow.
