Chennaites, please get ready for the upcoming Mylapore festival!!
Mylapore is one of the oldest localities in Chennai is a well known fact. This locality has many temples. The news that has come out now is that from 9th to 12th January, the 21st edition of Sundaram Finance Mylapore festival will take place.
It must be taken into account that the festival was conceived to celebrate the culture and heritage of Mylapore. In the beginning, there was dance, music and drama at this event but later on it has grown into a vibrant movement. Various activities that would take place in this upcoming 4 days cultural event are dance dramas, heritage walks, Tamil plays, folk arts, kolam displays, food and craft workshops etc. Sensational games like pallanguzhi and dayakattai will be present in this 4 day event.
Each year, the organising team strives to bring something unique for the people to celebrate. This was mentioned by Mr. Mohan Venkatesan, senior VP Sundaram Finance Ltd. He hinted about the puppet shows, cycling tours and chess tournaments for youngsters in this upcoming event. Kids of age 8.10 and 12 would be able to participate in the chess tournament. The tournament would be held at Lady Sivaswami Ayyar School, Mylapore.
Educating public on hygiene and sanitation:
Keep Mylapore Clean (a campaign launched by Sundaram Finance) has joined hands with the Ruva Foundation, a NGO from Bengaluru. The aim of this would be to educate the public on hygiene and sanitation etc. The residents would be given cloth based bags also. There would also be indoor golu exhibits for the public.
This time, the streets around Mylapore Kapaleeswarar temple as well as Kolavizhi Amman temple would conduct this 4 day festival. It is known that Kolavizhi Amman is gramadevathai or village deity of Mylapore.
