Pongal is just round the corner and the residents are getting ready now to celebrate this important festival. While many of us are eagerly waiting to celebrate the Pongal festival in our homes, there are many people in Chennai city who don`t have homes.
It is now said that a survey of the homeless would begin after the Pongal festival. For the sake of the education of their kids, the homeless persons have asked for houses in the same vicinity. These people have also asked for better civic infrastructure on the roads where they live.
It was later bought out by a resident living on the Peters Road in Royapettah that she had requested for a home in the same locality as her children were studying in a good school there. It is really superb to note that her son wants to become a scientist in the future. She thanked a few students of New College who gave her portable light as the street lights were not switched on. Her daughter who is studying in class 8 in a popular school wants to become a doctor in the future.
The presence of breeding sources beneath the bridge has led to the increase of mosquitoes. Point is that the Chennai Corporation hasn`t removed the mosquitoes breeding sources beneath the bridge. The vertical gardens in the bridges were not maintained properly and this has led to breeding of the mosquitoes here.
It was mentioned by another resident belonging to Conran Smith Road that the streetlights at the junction were not switched on by the corporation. She spoke about how she has been staying for the sake of the education of her kids. She concluded that her family that stayed in Kannagi Nagar (after the house allotment during the construction of the bridge at Peters Road) had left the place due to some issues. Bitter truth is that the bridge at Peters Road has remained their shelter during the rains.
