Chennai Traffic Police Announce Diversions for Republic Day Celebrations
The Greater Chennai City Traffic Police (GCTP) have issued traffic diversions in preparation for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26 and rehearsals scheduled for January 20, 22, and 24. These diversions will primarily affect Kamarajar Salai and its surrounding areas to ensure smooth conduct of the events.
Road Closures and Diversion Timings
- Kamarajar Salai (Gandhi Statue to War Memorial stretch): Closed to all vehicular traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. or until the completion of the event/rehearsal.
Diversion Details
For Vehicles Coming from Adyar Towards Parrys Corner (Commercial Vehicles):
- Diverted at Greenways Point to:
- R.K. Mutt Road → Thiruvenkadam Street → Devanathan Street → St. Mary’s Road → Venkatesa Agraharam Road → Dr. Ranga Road → East Abiramapuram 1st Road → Ramachandra Rao Road → Luz Avenue → Amrutanjan Junction → P.S. Sivasamy Salai → Nilgiris Point → Music Academy → T.T.K. Road → Gowdia Mutt Road → Royapettah High Road → G.R.H. → Tower Clock → G.P. Road → Anna Salai → Broadway.
For Other Vehicles (Including MTC Buses) from Adyar Towards Parrys Corner:
- Diverted at Gandhi Statue to:
- R.K. Salai → Nilgiris Point → Music Academy → T.T.K. Road → Gowdia Mutt Road → Royapettah High Road → G.R.H. → Tower Clock → G.P. Road → Anna Salai → Broadway.
Vehicles from Mylapore and Dr. Radhakrishnan Road:
- At Royapettah I Point, vehicles will take a left turn towards:
- Nilgiris → Music Academy → T.T.K. Road → Gowdia Mutt Road → G.R.H. → Tower Clock.
- Other vehicles may turn left or right to reach their destination.
Key Restrictions and Alternative Routes
- Dr. Natesan Road X Avvai Shanmugam Salai Junction:
- Vehicles will not be allowed towards Kamarajar Salai and will be diverted to Ice House Junction.
- Dr. Besant Road-Dr. Kamarajar Salai Junction:
- No vehicles permitted; diverted at Ice House Junction to T.H. Road.
- Bharathi Salai X Bells Road Junction:
- Vehicles diverted to Bells Road.
- Wallajah Road-Bells Road Junction:
- No access to Kamarajar Salai; vehicles diverted to Bells Road.
Bus Terminus Changes
- The Anna Square Bus Terminus will be temporarily shifted to Chintadripet Railway Station.
Diversions for Vehicles from Parrys Corner Towards Adyar:
- Diverted at R.B.I. Subway (North) to:
- Raja Annamalai Mandram → Muthusamy Point → Wallajah Point → Anna Salai → Anna Statue → General Patters Road → Royapettah Tower Clock → West Cott Road → G.R.H. → Royapettah High Road → Ajantha Junction → Lloyds Road (VP Raman Road) → Justice Jambulingam Street → R.K. Salai.
Restricted Roads
- Flag Staff House Road: No entry from Wallajah Point towards War Memorial.
Commuters are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays and cooperate with traffic authorities.
