The shocking piece of information is as many as 300 out of a total of 471 bus route roads (over 60%) have been damaged. Various reasons that have contributed to this road damage were water logging, faulty design and delay in the de-silting of storm water drains. This was as per the officials of the civic body.

It was later mentioned by a resident of Ethiraj Salai that the stretch near Presidency Club was damaged totally. The pot holes present has led to many motorcyclists sustain injuries due to traffic accidents here. The resident added that the civic body officials were unable to prevent water logging at the spot. He concluded that a solution must be found immediately.

It is important to note that few dangerous pot holes have developed on the roads posing issues to two wheelers. This was confirmed by few motorists who frequently take Kamarajar Salai along the Marina Beach and Anna Salai. In the last few days, potholes on the bridges at the Stanley viaduct from Pallavan Salai to Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. MGR Central railway station have also caused accidents.

The recent spell of rains has damaged the roads along the stretch between Moolakadai and Purasawalkam and this has led to number of accidents involving women pillion riders. This was according to a frequent user of this stretch.

It must be noted that roads such as Kothari Road, MGR Salai, Cathedral Road, G.N. Chetty Road, P.S. Sivasami Salai and Nelson Manickam Road have also been damaged. The information is tenders have been floated for relaying these roads in Chennai. This was as per an official belonging to Chennai Corporation.

The road situation is similar in the southern parts of Chennai also and here too the motorists face several issues due to damaged roads. Some civic work has been going on in most of the arterial roads and in interior roads.

It was later revealed by a welfare activist belonging to Nanganallur that only time when the roads were in good condition was when the locality got merged with the Chennai corporation. At that time of merging, grid roads were formed is known. He was unhappy regarding the roads being dug up for several utilities and the roads being left in bad condition.

It must be noted that the interior roads present in places like Velachery, Virugambakkam and Valasarawakkam were in very poor condition. In these places the storm water drains impede traffic flow and pose dangers to the motorists. Laying new roads and filling pot holes were not yet taken by the officials. This was as per some residents.
