The superb piece of information for the Chennai residents is that soon the state Highways department would begin the final leg of Perungalathur ROB works or road over bridge works connecting with Tambaram eastern bypass. It is known that 33/11kv substation has been shifted and entering upon permission has been granted by the Forest department.. Hence, the state Highways dept has taken this decision.

For the completion of remaining of the ROB works such as approach road to ROB, service road, SWD and retaining walls in the eastern bypass arm etc, the Highways dept has invited bids.

It must be taken into account that eight laning of NH main carriageway at Perungalathur beneath the ROB would be undertaken as part of the works.

In the year 2019 the ROB construction between Tambaram and Vandalur railway station near Perungalathur plus an elliptical shaped rotary flyover on the GST Road with 6 arms started. For an amount of Rs 155 cr, the contract for the work was awarded to Erode based company in October 2019. For an amount of Rs 111.9 cr, the contractor executed the work and the contract was foreclosed in July in 2025 due to delay in the land acquisition process.

It is worth noting that the Highways dept has already completed the works on Chengalpet - Chennai arm plus on the Srinivasa Raghavan Arm on Perungalathur side and Chennai-Chengalpet arm and opened to traffic.

There has been some delay in the completion of the work due to non approval of forest land diversion of 0.9547 hectares and delay in shifting the substation at the eastern side arm linking Tambaram eastern bypass.

After the Highways dept deposited the amount of Rs 19.53 cr, Tangedco shifted 33kv substation and this was as per some sources from the state Highways dept.
