Guindy railway station, part of the Chennai Beach-Chengalpattu section, is being revamped at a cost of Rs 13.50 crore under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS). With 50% of the work completed, the new station building is expected to be ready by September, as per a Southern Railway statement. Serving over 60,000 passengers daily, the station connects several major educational institutions in Chennai.

Planned upgrades include facade improvements, a new booking office, platform resurfacing, roof replacement, expanded two-wheeler parking, three new lifts, a passenger information display system, a public announcement system, and CCTV installation. The old parking zone along GST road has also been redeveloped.

However, K. Raghuraman, advisory board member of the Tamil Nadu State Differently Abled Association, emphasized the need for tactile pathways. A. Elumalai, Chennai division`s public relations officer, assured that facilities for persons with disabilities, such as gentle slopes, elevators, Braille and tactile signage, and wheelchair-accessible areas, will be included.

Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh recently inspected railway stations in Chennai and Tiruchirapalli, reviewing ABSS redevelopment works and discussing infrastructural issues with divisional officers and contractors to ensure minimal passenger inconvenience.
