A government holiday has been declared on 14th January for the Pongal festival series. Instead, 9th February (Saturday) will be a working day.
Pongal festival is being celebrated from 15th to 17th January.
There was a public expectation that if 14th January is also declared a holiday, it would facilitate visits by travel to the native places to celebrate the special Pongal festival occasion. Accordingly, the state government has now declared 14th January as a holiday for all government offices, schools, and colleges, As such, 9th February (Saturday) will be a working day in lieu of this.
