The Madras high court has ordered the state government to completely waive off all loan amounts availed by all sections of framers from cooperative societies. This announcement comes as a respite for all the farmers of Tamil Nadu.
Initial information state that the Madurai bench of Madras High Court has waived off all loans taken by farmers from the cooperative society. The farmers who have been indulged in protest say this as a victory and accomplishment and fruitful result of their days long struggle.
For about 23 days, farmers from Tamil Nadu’s drought-hit regions have been protesting at Delhi Jantar Mantar. Farmers of Thanjavur and Tiruchirapalli – along the Cauvery belt of Tamil Nadu – were involved in hunger strike in half-naked suit for the past 23 days. They carried skulls of the dead to symbolize their pitiful status.
Many Tamil Nadu leaders from various political spectrums have been in support of the farmers strike at Jantar Mantar demanding Rs 40,000 crore towards drought relief package from the centre, and farm loan waiver.
We won’t give up:
The farmers never gave up their protest until the drought relief package of Rs 40,000 crore and complete waiving off of loan were catered to. On Saturday, the centre had released Rs 1447.99 crore to Tamil Nadu and Rs 1782.44 crore for Karnataka as drought relief fund.
