Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachander Traffic Island Inaugurated in Chennai
The traffic island on Luz Church Road, near Kauvery Hospital in Ward-123 under Teynampet Zone (IX), has been officially renamed and unveiled as the ‘Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachander Traffic Island.’
The inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, December 26, 2024, was graced by Tamil Nadu Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply K.N. Nehru, Mayor R. Priya, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran, and notable members of the Tamil film industry.
This renaming, a tribute to the legendary film director K. Balachander, was executed as per the directives of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The new name board signifies recognition of K. Balachander`s immense contributions to Indian cinema, cementing his legacy in the heart of Chennai.
