By the second week of April, the 100 day open challenge intended to improve the reading and learning skills of primary class students would conclude. Information gathered is that in the first phase the challenge was implemented in 4552 government and government aided schools in TN.

It was brought out by Mr. P.A. Naresh, director of primary schools, said that the challenges would mostly conclude in the first or second week of April. He added that the minister for school education Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi would inspect.

In December 2024, the 100 day challenge started with an objective to improve the learning and reading skills of primary school students for 3 subjects namely Tamil, English and Mathematics. It is noteworthy that the initiative was undertaken in addition to other programmes implemented in the schools to improve reading and learning skills of the students.

It must be recalled that in November 2024 school heads of Pudur Panchayat Union Primary School invited the educational minister to interact with the school kids and inspect their learning abilities. The education minister then made his presence felt at this school and noted that the school kids were able to read Tamil and English fluently. The students did well in arithmetic also and the minister directed all the schools to follow this and take up the challenge.

In November 2024, the school education dept listed as many as 4552 schools to take part in the challenge from December.

What is the challenge?

It is worthy to note that the challenge involved teaching basic mathematical skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division etc in 100 days. The teachers and students have been motivated by this unique challenge and this was as per an official from the school education department.
