For the north Chennai residents, here comes amazing news that would make you delighted!!
The work under Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam has gained momentum now!!
The CM of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin made his presence felt in north Chennai last week and ordered the officers to expedite the projects. News is that the infrastructure in north Chennai would get a makeover. By December 2025, the TN government is hoping to complete atleast 80% of the works. This was mentioned by Mr. P.D. Sekar Babu, CMDA minister.
Details about projects:
It must be noted that among the projects are bus stands, public health facilities, water supply, trade centre, schools, playgrounds, houses for the poor and skill development of the youth etc.
Mr. G. Duraiswamy, Madhavaram zone ward 30 councillor mentioned that the bus stand that was proposed to be constructed at Vinayagapuram would help in better public transport in the locality in north Chennai. He later spoke about how the residents were campaigning for a modern bus stand for the last 9 years. To reach the central business district places, many students and women from the area depend on the bus services only. He was of the view that bus transport from their zone to places like Koyambedu and George Town would improve in one year after the construction of a modern bus stand.
Work on bus stand begins:
In the Madhavaram zone, bhoomi puja work for the construction of a bus stand took place and in a short time construction would begin. It was brought out by Mr. Kannan of ward 1 that the current government had not implemented important infrastructure projects for the Thiruvottriyur zone such as improved drinking water supply, creating sewer network etc. Mr. Kannan mentioned that the area near Ennore Creek was very crucial for Chennai city`s resilience. He was of the view that the TN govt did not take into account the challenging issues faced by the residents of north Chennai. Point is that if the government was concerned about poor residents then they would have provided sewage and water supply connections at a concessional rate.
It is noteworthy that the present government has implemented an underground sewage project in the area but the economically poor residents were unable to afford it due to huge charges ranging from Rs 1lakh to Rs 5lakh. North Chennai requires tourism infrastructure, clean air and safe drinking water etc. The Chennai city`s resilience would get strengthened once north Chennai becomes safe.
The TN govt must increase the bus services and improve road infrastructure in addition to the construction of bus stands in north Chennai. This wawas according to Mr. K.P. Subramanian, former professor of Anna University. The councillors of various projects have been monitoring the progress of the work after the corporation council passed a resolution clearing 36 projects under Vada Chennai Valarchi Thittam on Thursday. It was also revealed that before the onset of NE monsoon, an eco-park would be completed at Tondiarpet zone. Moreover flood mitigation works would be implemented in Tondiarpet zone and Royapuram zone etc.
