The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has announced special camps to issue new identity cards to street vendors across the city. These camps will be held in all zonal offices from November 22 to 30, as part of efforts to regulate street vending activities.
The initiative follows the eighth meeting of the city sales committee on November 6, during which plans to oversee the city`s 35,588 street vendors were discussed.
To participate in the camps, street vendors must bring their Aadhaar card, any old identity cards (if available), and a mobile phone. An OTP will be sent to their mobile number for verification and updating the vendor database. New identity cards will then be issued based on the registered mobile number.
This initiative aims to streamline the regulation of street vending and ensure better support for vendors operating in the city.
