The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tamil Nadu on November 30 due to the formation of a deep depression in the South Bay of Bengal. The depression intensified into a deep depression two days ago and has remained stationary for the past six hours.
The cyclone "Bengal" is expected to cross the coast between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on the morning of November 30, bringing with it extremely heavy rainfall. The IMD has forecast 20 cm of rain on that day, with very heavy rain expected in the northern districts of Tamil Nadu on 29th and 30th November. Coastal districts are also likely to experience intense rainfall.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected today across Tamil Nadu, with heavy rain possible at one or two locations in the northern coastal districts.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions ahead of the severe weather.
