Tamil Nadu Weatherman (TWM) has shared the latest update on Cyclone Fengal, warning of intense rainfall and significant weather changes over the next 12 to 18 hours.
Rainfall:
- Dense clouds are currently hovering over the Chennai region (KTCC).
- Since last night, 60-120 mm of rainfall has been recorded till 8:30 AM, with heavy rains expected to continue through the day.
- This period is likely to bring the heaviest rains for Chennai, given the slow-moving nature of the cyclone.
Landfall:
- Cyclone Fengal is expected to make landfall between Chennai and Puducherry, in the region spanning from Marakkanam to Mahabalipuram.
- The estimated time for landfall is late night to early morning on December 1.
- Prolonged rainfall is expected in Chennai until the cyclone crosses the coast, with further delays likely to intensify the rains.
Winds:
- Wind speeds along the coast are expected to pick up by evening or night, reaching 50-70 km/hr.
- Winds are not the primary threat; the heavy rains over the next 12-18 hours pose a greater concern for Chennai and its neighboring areas.
Note: Currently, only the Chennai region is significantly impacted. Updates for other districts will follow.
