The Chennai Corporation Council has approved a new system for regulating pet ownership in the city. Notably, this system will not display details of microchip implantation.
Additionally, a tender has been approved to develop a dedicated software and mobile app for managing pet registration and tracking.
To tackle the rising stray dog population, the Corporation has decided to establish four new Animal Birth Control (ABC) centers across the city. These centers will be set up at Madhavaram, Kallikuppam, Bricklin Road, and Nelambur Union Road at an estimated cost of ₹7.26 crore.
This initiative aims to streamline pet ownership, enhance urban animal welfare, and effectively manage Chennai’s growing stray dog population.
