Superb news for the residents belonging to Pasiavaram, Santhakuppam, Edamanikuppam, Vairavankuppam and Edaimani Colony etc!!

Now everything is ready and when the weather permits the 1032m long2 lane wide bridge connecting Pasiavaram with the mainland at Pulicat would be opened. This was as per the Highways dept.

It was mentioned by an officer from the Highways dept that to prevent the bridge from corrosion a final coating of anti-corrosion paint would be given. The rains have put this to halt now. Point is that water below is brackish and hence it is necessary to give anti corrosion paint to the structure.

The opening of the 1032 m long bridge would be of huge help for the residents belonging to the above mentioned 5 localities. These residents would be able to travel safely and reach the mainland.  After temporary ramps were formed, 2 wheeler riders and pedestrians have been using the facility.

In the year2021, the work regarding the bridge construction began. From October to March, the rise in the water levels has restricted the construction work to just 6 months each year.

It was later mentioned by a source that the shortage of earth for formation of ramps was an issue and the contractor brought the earth from Cheyaar so that the project could be completed

The bridge needed good lighting facilities for the public to use it during dark and this was pointed out by Mr. Durai Mahendran of TN Meenavar Sangam. He spoke about how the residents fought for many years for the sake of the bridge here. The reason for delay in the bridge here was that the bridge was located inside the Pulicat Lake which is a bird sanctuary. Therefore, getting the approval for constructing a bridge here took time.
