The city traffic police have been sought assistance by the Corporation officials to unveil charges on vehicles parked on pavements. To give a hint to the traffic police, the civic body has proposed a listing of 26 newly rested pavements, where motorists illicitly park automobiles.

We are continuously receiving many grievances regarding this issue from travelers, particularly from Pantheon Road, Halls Road and Police Commissioner Office Road.

Effort on constructing disabled-affable pavements at a cost of about 42.75 Crores on 71 bus route roads is looming its finishing point, but many motorists are employing the broadened pavements as parking lot. Necessary action needs to be taken beside those parking on pavements, said an official.

Vehicles that have been parked on the roadside that hinders the free passage of traffic ought to be cleared with the assistance of the police. We are also in the plant to enforce charges on the owners of the forsaken vehicles, officials added.

People said they were scared of walking on the pavements for the reason of the violations and pavement badgers.

There needs to be a committed parking space. The implementation agencies should make sure that none of the vehicle is messily parked on pavement roads, said Raj Cherubal, coordinator of Chennai City Connect, an NGO functioning on transport problems.

In a plan to limit hawkers on illegal parking, the civic body has placed bollards on many pavements.
