In Chennai, more kids have been affected by flu now and they have been visiting paediatricians for treatment. Not only flu, there are also cases of dengue, HFMD or hand foot mouth diseases etc. Every day, atleast 60 to 70 kids having flu symptoms visit KKCH or Kanchi Kamakoti Childs Trust Hospital in Chennai for treatment.
Dr. Janani Shankar, medical director of KKCH spoke about how there is also an outbreak of HFMD now that is spreading fast among the kids. She added that seasonal changes have led to rise in the flu-like illness in the children. It is learnt that in last February there were infection cases due to adenovirus but now there are more cases due to the infections caused by influenza A and B viruses.
Nearly 50% of the outpatients a day have got symptoms of flu and this was according to Dr. J.K. Reddy, senior consultant, Apollo Hospitals in Chennai. He added that in the last 2 to 3 weeks there were more cases of flu. Symptoms like high fever, headache, body pain, cold and cough were witnessed in many kids now.
