Security increased on the occasion of Republic Day

On the occasion of Republic Day, security has been beefed up in Chennai City.
 
A statement has been issued on behalf of Chennai Police. The statement reads, “Tamil Nadu Government will be celebrating the republic day on 26th January near Gandhi Statue in Kamarajar Salai (Marina Beach). Tamil Nadu government is making arrangements to celebrate this day. Various departments are rehearing for the cultural programme every morning. Since the Intelligence Bureau has warned that there might be terrorist strikes on Republic Day, the security has been beefed for the last two days. The police department has increased the security in railway stations, bus stations, commercial complex, places of worships and markets. In the nights heavy vehicle checks are being carried out.  
 
Police are also checking the hotels and private lodgings. In the railway stations, the baggages of the passengers are being thoroughly checked before allowing it inside.
 
There is 24 hours police patrolling and observation at the venue of Republic Celebrations. Bomb squads are frequently conducting checks in this venue and also in important places. The bomb squad conducted check at a shopping mall in Mylapore. A higher police official said that this security will continue till the Republic Day celebrations are over.
