The famous (10 Day) chariot festival at Ayya Vaikunta Dharmapathi temple commenced yesterday, Friday, 2nd October at Manali Pudhunagar. `Flag-hoisting (Kodyetram) ceremony was performed at 6.30 AM and the divine article was read out.
After this, Lord Ayya Vaikuntasamy`s procession on `Rishabha Vahanam` (Bull Carriage) was performed. Lots of devotees participated and had good Darshan of the Lord.
The festival will continue for 10 days with procession of the Lord in different decorated carriages every day - Annam (Swan), Garudan (kite), Mayil (peacock), Anjaneaya (Monkey God), Sarpam (Snake), Malar-muga-simmam (Flower-faced lion), `kudhirai (horse), Kamadhenu (holy cow), and Indhra (Lord of the Devas)
Eminent politicians including Eranavoor Narayanan, Madhavaram Murthy, Mayor Saiddai Duraiswamy, Regional Committee Head Thangasivam and thousands of devotees from suburban Chennai areas are expected to participate in 10th Day grand chariot procession to participate in the pulling of the chariot ropes for the procession. The temple administrators are making all required arrangements.
