The price of the non-subsidized cooking gas LPG was cut by Rs 4 per cylinder. At the same time, the price of the jet fuel was hiked by 8.7 percent. This new price has come into effect from yesterday.

Jet fuel price in Delhi was raised by Rs 3,371.55 per kilolitre (kl) to Rs 42,157.01 per kl. The price was reduced by Rs  515.85 per kilolitre on 10th March. Prior to that, rates were hiked by steep 12 percent, or Rs 4,174.49, on March 1, almost neutralising a Rs 4,765.5 cut on February 1.

Rates vary at different airports because of differential local sales tax or value-added tax. The price increase will add to the financial burden on airline companies.

No immediate comment was available from airlines on the impact of the price increase on passenger fares.
