The Supreme Court of India has granted permission for the implementation of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to MBBS, BDS and post-graduate courses in all medical colleges.

The Government of India in the year 2012 had issued the notification for the single common entrance test for graduate medical courses. Similarly the Government in the year 2013 had issued the notification for the single common entrance test for post graduate medical courses. In 2013, the apex court had quashed the notification for the single common entrance test on the ground that it violated the rights of private institutions to administer such institutions.

The judgment quashing the NEET was delivered by a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Altamas Kabir
