Early winds help TNEB

The scorching heat felt throughout the country has advanced the wind power seasons that set in only in May. In the last few days, wind generation has contributed more than 750MW on an average, especially during evenings.

The generation has come in handy for the TNEB authorities with air-conditioners driving up power demand. On Tuesday evening, demand up to 14,736MW was met and consumption crossed 307 million units. On Tuesday early morning, wind generation touched a maximum of 1,848MW and this helped the authorities shut power purchase from short-term contracts.

The early onset of wind power generation foretell well for the authorities to meet the summer demand.

Meanwhile, there are complaints from residents of several areas in the city over frequent power cuts, especially during the night. But power managers say the power cuts are due to local problems like too much load on the transformer.
