The Election Commission has been making all-out efforts to register 100 percent voting in the scheduled Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections.

The Election Commission has been emphasizing the importance of voting - if the voter does not prefer anyone contesting, they can vote for NOTA. The target is 100 percent voter registration.

In this scenario, there have sorts of debates in various social networking media such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp about what will happen if NOTA secures a majority.

The election commission circles inform that the policy as explained in a circular sent by it during October 2013.

This circular clearly explains what happens if NOTA registers more votes than other candidates.

The circular mentions that in the event of NOTA getting the majority of votes, the candidate who comes in the next in the number of votes registered in his/her favour should be declared as the winner.

So, it turns out clear that NOTA is simply a means to register lawfully that voter does not prefer any candidate contesting in his/her constituency. Otherwise, no other election activities will be disturbed by voting for NOTA.

Hence, social enthusiasts have been demanding that campaign should be taken up to inform public that President`s rule will not be imposed if NOTA wins.
