The Airport Authority of India, AAI is likely that it will announce a call for tenders for selecting contractors who can set up branded retail outlets inside the Chennai airport in front of domestic and international terminals.
The terms and conditions are revised and hence the airport authorities believe this attempt will work out. The revised terms will attract renowned brands in apparels, leather goods, books, handicrafts, handlooms, etc.
In spite of having awarded duty free contracts for food and beverages, there has been delay in setting up the store. For the big names in retail, a master concessionaire will get appointed for allotting space for stores and to generate revenue to airport operator.
Retail shops were given with individual contracts by the AAI. However the system was discontinued due to cumbersome process.
Owing to lack of response, the attempts to rope in brands turned a failure. Deepak Shastri, the director at Airport had said that poor response was deeply analyzed. It is based on this analysis that the contract will be reviewed. And tenders are set to get floated in another one week.
