Across India, today, the 13th March 2017 is celebrated as The Festival of Colors, Holi. Preceding this day is Holika Dahan that was celebrated yesterday, the 12th March 2017, Sunday.
How do we celebrate Holi?
Friends and relative gather together around a bonfire. This is called the Chhoti Holi. After one day of this, Rang Panchami is celebrated. On this day, people enjoy playing with Gulal or colors.
The Holi celebration is depiction of victory of good over the bad. This also marks to be the start of spring.
On the evening of Chhoti Holi, in the evening, people celebrate by lighting up bonfire and they gather around it. This fire is a portrayal of destruction of evil, they believe. Evil Hindu mythological character, Holika is burnt, as per what they believe, and the victor of good powers is depicted by Prahlad.
A few others set these believes aside and claim the fire as a symbol that winter is over and summer days are ahead.
