It has been made compulsory to link Aadhar card number to get the new mobile numbers as well as the old customers to continue availing service.
The mobile telecom service providers have been ordered to get the Aadhar card related personal data such as name, age, address, etc.
This order, released by the central department of telecommunications on Friday, 24th March, has been sent to all the telecom service providers.
This order has been released after the central government received the approval from the Supreme Court for its plan to compile mobile phone customer information through e-KYC.
With this order, it is expected that Aadhar details will be obtained from the existing more than 100 Crore mobile phone users.
The telecom service providing companies will bear the expenses, estimated to be Rs. 2500 Crores, for implementing this order.
E-KYC activities, based on Aadhar cards, will be completed before 6th February 2018.
The phones which were procured only to get internet services will be counter checked with other numbers.
It is understood that the department of telecommunications took this measure after the announcement of PAN cards to be linked compulsory with Aadhar card details.
