Booking online tickets in IRCTC grows to 6.30 Lakhs daily

Following the demonetization and the government steps to encourage cashless transactions, the service charges for booking train tickets online was cancelled.

This measure helped a substantial increase in the number of people booking train tickets online, this has grown to 6.30 Lakhs daily.

An IRCTC official explained that there is a huge growth in the people using cell phones for all purposes.

Subsequently, Indian Railways have been introducing various facilities applying hi-tech features.

In order avoid the waiting of passengers in the queue for booking tickets and also to encourage cashless transactions by booking tickets online, the service charges Rs. 20 for sleeper tickets and Rs. 40 for A/C coaches  was withdrawn in November following demonetisation.

Subsequently, there has been a substantial increase in the number of people booking train tickets online. When the service charges were applicable, 5.5 Lakh people booked online daily.

Now, after the withdrawal of service charges, this has increased to 6.30 Lakhs daily.
