The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has barred 300 Engineering Colleges located throughout the country from making new admission from the next academic year.
AICTE has granted approval for closing the engineering colleges where there had been the lowest admission in the last 5 years.
It is learned that AICTE has further ordered that new admissions may not be done in the engineering colleges in the next academic year 2018-19 where only 20% students are studying the course in 300 colleges located throughout the country.
The officials from the central ministry of Human Welfare Development have informed that they have been monitoring 500 engineering colleges where the admissions had been less than 30%.
AICTE has further advised the 300 engineering colleges barred from the new admission that they can change to Arts and science colleges or as industrial training centres.
For this measure of alternative offered, AICTE has explained that this has been offered giving due consideration to the bank loans taken by these colleges and the capital amount invested in setting up the academic establishment.
