United States of America based conservationist Kerry M Kriger would be inaugurating a research centre for herpetological studies at the popular Guindy based snake park on 29th December 2017 and this upcoming research centre would be linked to University of Madras.

Many research projects were successfully conducted in this snake park but the drawback was it did not have a proper research centre for the purpose of guiding researchers and conducting research programmes. But now that will change with the opening of the research centre. It is important to note that advanced research centre was the need of the hour to carry out both national as well as international based projects. It is now said that Snake Park would be utilising two scientists for the purpose of research projects plus they would also be involved in writing proposals for getting grants etc.

The good news is the research centre at the Snake Park would also be associating with Tamil Nadu Veterinary University, Vandalur Zoo etc. This Guindy snake park not only has got superb research facilities but also has many books and museum specimens of reptiles. It is worthy to mention that popular wildlife conservationist Romulus Whitaker in the year 1972 founded this snake park and over the years it has become very popular.
