Soon the crematorium in Kannamapet to be powered by gas

Crematorium in Kannamapet in Chennai is now making news. It is known that the electric crematorium present in the Chennai city gets closed often for the maintenance purpose. The news that has come out is GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would soon be converting the crematorium in Kannamapet into a gas powered one. An amount of Rs 3 crores utilizing Smart City funds would be spent for this.

An official belonging to Chennai Corporation expressed his thoughts and spoke about how gas operated crematoriums were easy to maintain and less energy is consumed. The electric coil present in electric crematorium is creating issues. It must be noted that when these coils get damaged it takes time to replace the damaged coils.

Porur based electric crematorium became cynosure of many eyes recently when it was closed down for two days for the maintenance works. There are as many as 3 units in Kannamapet burial ground. Out of these 3 units one unit belongs to Jain community and the rest belongs to Chennai Corporation. Out of the 2 units of Chennai corporation one unit is not functioning is known. It is now revealed that this non functional unit would be divided into two with furnace each. LPG or liquefied petroleum gas would be used to power these units.

According to the corporation officials, there would be renovated space in the crematorium so that final rites could be performed. One important piece of information is usuable structures would be retained and those parts that are dilapidated would be destroyed and would be built again.

Isha foundation in Coimbatore recently made many heads turn when it took over the maintenance of the Besant Nagar crematorium. The maintenance of Kannamapet burial ground would also be taken up by this Isha foundation. A Smart City official spoke about how both modernizing of the crematorium as well as giving dignified farewell to the departed would be possible soon.
