There is richness of health and a lot of benefits contained in chicken soup. It is recommended right from 10 months of age. This version of chicken soup suits babies right from 10 months until toddlerhood.

This soup is particularly recommended for babies with nose congestion or stuffy nose. For winter season or monsoon period, this soup will feel good to slide through the throat. Furthermore, as we will be adding garlic, onions, and ginger to it, you get your immunity boosted so well.

In fact, this dish can easily become your kid’s favorite. On the contrary, a few babies might not like the flavor of chicken soup when fed as a soup all by itself. For such babies, you may try giving them as an accompaniment with idli or dhosa or even rice.

So, let’s jump into the recipe:

Required ingredients:
  • Chicken pieces along with bones – quarter kilo
  • Bay leaves – 1 No.
  • Cinnamon – 1 stick (medium sized)
  • Cloves – 2 (medium sized)
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Ginger – of quarter inch size; finely chopped or even grated
  • Garlic – 4 pods  (shattered)
  • Onions 1 No (finely chopped)
  • Pepper corns – quarter spoon
  • Salt – as required
  • Coriander leaves – a hand full
  • Oil – one spoon
  • Turmeric powder – a pinch
  • Water – 2 full cups
Cooking Method
  1. Clean the chicken pieces thoroughly and make them into tiny pieces.
  2. Get the ginger, coriander, onions and garlic finely chopped. Half of the onions will have to be chopped along with coriander leaves, cumin seeds and pepper. Make it into a nice paste.
  3. Take a pressure cooker and add oil. If required, you may replace this with ghee. To this, add cinnamon sticks, cloves and cumin seeds. Allow all of them to get crackled.
  4. To this, add the remaining onions and ginger and garlic that you have finely chopped. Get them nicely fried until they turn golden brown in color.
  5. It is time to add the ground paste now. Add it and saute until all of the raw smell goes off
  6. Now, add turmeric powder and pepper powder if required. And add necessary amount of salt
  7. Give a nice mix to all of these ingredients.
  8. Now, add the chicken pieces and toss them. Saute thoroughly for five minutes
  9. Close the pressure cooker lid after adding two cups of water. Pressure cook it for 3 or 4 whistles depending on the tenderness of the chicken pieces. Keep the fire in medium flame so that the chicken pieces take enough time to get soft.
  10. Once the pressure gets released on its own, take off the lid. Strain the soup out of the recipe with a strainer. Now, your chicken clear soup is ready.

The ideal way to feed chicken soup to babies under 1 year of age is in the clear form. For babies above 2 years, the chicken pieces can also be given without worry, as they know to throw off the hard pieces and discard hard bones that come in between while eating.
